I began this book as a journal, a legacy, for my children and grandchildren, knowing how often I’d wished I had my great-grandmothers’ stories. As happens with most well-intended journeys, however, this one took on a life of its own. A story began to emerge as if it were writing itself. Friends and clients asked if they could read it. A decision had to be made.

And so, dear friends and readers, I share my story with you.

It is my hope that this story will validate, encourage, and empower each reader to find your own way home.
